With the announcement of Nampa Classical Academy’s closing, we would like to extend an invitation to families from NCA. We respect the effort that NCA’s leadership put forth as they attempted to retain its charter. Prior to the announcement of NCA’s closure, we chose not to enter into the debate out of concern for our fellow classical school. At this point, as the only remaining classical educational option for most families, we would like to extend an invitation to NCA families. We have waiting lists in k-2, but we have a few openings in 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 8th. We also have space in grades 9-12.

The Ambrose School is a non-profit private school. We charge tuition, but this leaves us free to teach truth unencumbered. We are free to teach about God, the creater and sustainer of all things. Our program fully integrates Christian doctrine and philosophy into every subject. Classical education depends on an unhindered pursuit of truth without boundaries or limits. We are committed to this vision, so we do not accept any state funding whatsoever.

With 15 years of experience, we have been practicing the classical model for some time. Our teachers and curriculum have been proven effective. Our average SAT scores (2 part) exceed 1300. Our students matriculate at some of the finest colleges in the country. We encourage interested NCA families to request a packet and visit The Ambrose School.

Krista Wilford, an Ambrose School Junior, addressed a crowd of over 800 educators at the National ACCS conference in Durham, North Carolina on June 18th. Krista won the “runner up” award in the ACCS National Chrysostom Oratory competition earlier this year. This contest is held among accredited ACCS schools from around the country. Its purpose is to inspire other ACCS educators and students to pursue rhetorical excellence. The winner, Anna Kitchin from Rockbridge Academy in Maryland also gave her speech on the 18th. Krista also won a $500 scholarship, in addition to her trip to North Carolina. Krista’s speech was on the value of Poetry in Christian culture. We hope to make the audio of her speech available soon.

On Thursday, June 10th at 7:00 PM, Douglas Wilson spoke at The Ambrose School for the first time in over 10 years.

Listen here:
Doug Wilson Lecture

Douglas Wilson was the seminal force behind the restoration of classical Christian education in America. He is a senior fellow of Theology at New St. Andrews College and pastor of Christ Church in Moscow, Idaho. Recently, Mr. Wilson was featured on Fox News, in Christianity Today online and across the country as he debates atheist Christopher Hitchens, author of “God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything”.

Mr. Wilson spoke on “classical Christian education’s fractious relationship with culture.” In line with the goals of Dewey, modern education theorists want to minimize the collision of various ideas in the course of a child’s education. That might lead to debate, which might lead to conflict, and that would put sand in the gears of a humanistic society. Because classical Christian educators from Augustine on, have insisted on the antithesis between the City of God and the city of man, this explains the fractious relationship that classical Christian education has had with the outside culture. For us, the presence of this tension does not mean that something has gone wrong.

Once again this year, the Ambrose Mock Trial Teams (Varsity and JV) advanced from regionals to state, and then into the final 4. The Ambrose A team bested Kimberly High School and Centennial High School at state to advance into the semi-finals as the first seed. Ambrose B bested Lewiston High School and lost to Logos School’s B team, but earned enough points to enter the final 4. The state’s two largest Classical Christian Schools, Logos School of Moscow, and The Ambrose School of Boise earned all 4 semi-final positions. Our A team bested our B team, to earn a the championship opportunity. Ambrose lost to Logos in the State championships. But, the story does not end there.

The coaches of the two teams had arranged for a social event between the two schools after last year resulted in a similar match-up. The students, after two days of intense competition joined together for an evening of fun, including a mystery dinner, swing dancing, and ultimate Frisbee. We look forward to another opportunity to best our rivals, Logos School, next year. This year, we wish them the best in their quest for the National Title on May 14th in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. We believe this is Logos School’s 12th State title. Go Logos!

Mock Trial is a national competition where students prepare both a prosecution and defense for a court case. Students progress from a district level to state. The state champions represent Idaho in the National Championship. This year, Nationals are in Philadelphia. During each round, students try a given case in front of a team of 3 judges– one of whom is typically a sitting judge. Each Mock Trial team has 7 active members and two alternates. The seven active members include 3 witnesses and 2 or 3 attorneys, plus a timekeeper. The Idaho Law Foundation, sponsored by the Idaho Bar Association, sponsors the competitions.
